Complete List of NBA Player Height Changes and Updates – CrownHoops

maximios May 27, 2023 Sport

For years, height and weight have always been almost a matter of opinion – no exact measurements were ever verified. According to Marc Stein of the New York Times, NBA teams are now required to provide exact height and weight measurements. This led to a lot of NBA player height changes

NBA spokesman Mike Bass confirmed the report to The Washington Post, adding, “A consistent process has been created to ensure the integrity and accuracy of the data on team rosters.”

For height measurements, all players will be required to remove their shoes. Most NBA players were upset by this, as they don’t play without shoes on. The height will be rounded to the nearest inch. Weight measurements will be less strict, as players tend to gain or lose weight quite frequently in the league.

The new rule change is believed to come from the NBA’s mistake last year with Sacramento King’s guard Buddy Hield having his age inaccurately reported, claiming he was a year younger than he really was. Hield claims he told the truth and the numbers must have been entered wrong, but there is no way to really tell.

Since the rule change, there have been 55 NBA player height changes since last season. While the majority of the changes seem to be players getting shorter, there are a few players that have grown.

Marvin Bagley: Still 6’11 despite false reports

Some of you may have noticed Bagley was introduced as a 6-8 forward this morning and Hield was introduced as a 6-3 guard. That was incorrect. I’m told the roster below includes NBA-certified heights for all players. Bagley is still 6-11. Buddy is still 6-4. pic.twitter.com/WCMXarmR9S
