D'Angelo Russell: Teams he Fits With the Most – CrownHoops

maximios November 29, 2023 Sport

NBA Free Agency is in full swing and one of the key names on the market is D’Angelo Russell. The Brooklyn Nets are moving on from Russell as they are signing Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant (I know, that still seems odd to say). With this in mind, it will be interesting to see where the first time All-Star ends up after having a break-out season last year with the Nets. Without further adieu, let’s take a look at the best fits for D’Angelo Russell this coming season.

Team #1: Los Angeles Lakers

A reunion with his former team is not so far fetched. If the Lakers swing and miss on other major free agents, then Russell is not a bad last resort. He can help the team space the floor with his ability to shoot since he is a career 35 percent shooter from three-point range. Not to mention, he would provide a great kick-out threat for LeBron James.

Especially when you consider that James has had the most success in his career when surrounded by great shooters. The Lakers are looking for a new point guard after shipping Lonzo Ball to New Orleans as part of the Anthony Davis deal. Russell would remedy this void and make the Lakers a threat to go even farther in the hectic Western Conference.

Team #2: Minnesota Timberwolves

This team seems like an oddball at first. However, ever since they lost Ricky Rubio, they have not had a reliable playmaker at the point guard spot. Not to mention, Russell is a risk the Timberwolves have to take at this point. Russell could maybe open up opportunities for Karl Anthony Towns when he drives into the paint.

Another long shot, though it is unlikely, is he could be a good fit with Andrew Wiggins and maybe rejuvenate the small forward who has seemingly stagnated in his young career. All in all, Russell is simply a good fit with Minnesota for the mere fact that he would at least make them competitive again.

Team #3: Phoenix Suns

Phoenix is a very intriguing prospect for Russell. He would be teaming up with the electric Devin Booker forming a formidable back-court. Not to mention, he would also have a young talent in Deandre Ayton opening up opportunities for him as well. Once again, this lone addition does not make them a playoff team in the West, but it would make them competitive at the very least, similar to Minnesota.

Phoenix is the least likely of these three teams to land the All-Star point guard, but they actually may be the best fit for Russell. We will soon see what happens with the young and growing point guard. Will he have a reunion with his old squad? Will he help the rebuild process of Minnesota or Phoenix? Let us know what you think!
