Denver Nuggets: Free Agent Wish List – CrownHoops

maximios September 14, 2024 Sport

The Denver Nuggets are one of the premier playoff teams in the NBA as of right now. After a solid season last year, the team has maintained a relatively high success rate in the current NBA year before the season was suspended. While the Denver Nuggets are a title contender, that does not mean they do not have holes on their roster. With this in mind, we have compiled a free agent wish list for the Nuggets this coming offseason. Without further adieu, let’s delve into which players would be solid additions to the Mile High this offseason.

A Backup Center

Mason Plumlee has not had the greatest season, to say the least. He will be an unrestricted free agent and it is difficult to imagine Denver bringing him back due to his inconsistent play. If this were to happen, the Nuggets could go a couple of different routes. They could bring up Bol Bol from the G League.

However, a free agent option would be pursuing Christian Wood who was one of the bigger surprises this year with totals of 13.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, and an effective field goal percentage of 62.0 percent. Wood is technically a power forward, but the team could still explore playing him at the five-spot which could allow him back up both Nikola Jokic and Paul Millsap. The team could even get really whacky and bring up Bol Bol and also pursue Wood. Other free-agent options would be Montrezl Harrell, Marc Gasol, or Serge Ibaka.

A Three-and-D Wing

This may seem a bit odd as the Nuggets already have their fair share of wings on their roster. Players such as Will Barton, Michael Porter, and Torrey Craig (who is a restricted free agent this offseason). However, in today’s NBA, having another three and d wing never hurts. Players such as Jae Crowder, Kent Bazemore, or Michael Kidd-Gilchrist would be additions who would serve Denver’s needs and be terrific fits at the wing position. Players who are willing to do the intangibles that do not show up on the stat sheet and still provide valuable minutes off the bench.

A Power Forward (If Millsap Leaves)

Paul Millsap has already made it clear he wants to remain in the Mile High. However, words do not always equate to actions as we have seen in today’s modern NBA. If Millsap were to leave, it would leave a void at the four-spot for Denver. Millsap may be getting older, but he fits the Nuggets perfectly.

We have already gone over Christian Wood, but there are other power forwards available in this offseason’s free-agent pool. Denver could try to hit the home run with a star such as Anthony Davis, but that is unrealistic. Other options at the four could be bringing back Danilo Gallinari, Davis Bertans, or Montrezl Harrell if they want to accept a bench role. Especially since the Nuggets will need to bolster their second unit as they will most likely want to promote Jerami Grant to the starting power forward role if Millsap leaves.
