Five Potential Destinations for Kyle Lowry – CrownHoops

maximios May 29, 2024 Sport

Kyle Lowry will be entering free agency this off-season, and there will be many teams interested in his services. However, I don’t expect him back with the Toronto Raptors; it is time for Lowry to move on after being nearly traded at the trading deadline. Last year Lowry played 46 games, averaged 17.2 points, 7.5 assists, and 5.3 rebounds per game; Lowry shot 43 percent from the field, 39 percent from the three-point line, and 85 percent from the free-throw line. Many teams will love Lowry’s playmaking, shooting, defense and, leadership. Here are some destinations for Kyle Lowry.

New York Knicks

The New York Knicks could create about $72.8 million in cap space; that would be plenty to sign Lowry and some other free agents. New York was the fourth seed this year in the playoffs but lost in the first round to the Atlanta Hawks. In addition, the Knicks lacked some offense, ranking 22nd in offensive efficiency. Lowry’s playmaking ability and shooting would help a lot; he would help get Julius Randle easy baskets.

Miami Heat

The Miami Heat could create some cap space by not re-signing Victor Oladipo. Also, Miami could decline team options on Andre Iguodala and Goran Dragic. Lowry would be the perfect complement for Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo, with his shooting and his ball-handling ability. In addition, Lowry would be an upgrade over Dragic on the defensive end. Adding Lowry would make Miami an instant contender in the East.

Philadelphia 76ers

If Lowry were to want to go home to Philadelphia, it would have to be a sign and trade for Ben Simmons. At the trading deadline, the 76ers were rumored to be interested in Lowry. Philadelphia needs a point guard with experience that can distribute the basketball and play defense. In addition, Lowry would be perfect for head coach, Doc Rivers‘ system. Adding Lowry would help Joel Embid and Tobias Harris a lot with his leadership and is the ability to pass the ball and create easy shots.

Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks could create enough space to sign Lowry; he would be an excellent secondary ball-handler next to Luka Doncic. If the Mavericks can create space, they should go after Lowry; he would help them take that next step in becoming a championship team. The addition of Lowry would be crucial for Doncic because he would not have to handle the ball so much, and Lowry could get Doncic some easy looks.

Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers are another team interested in Lowry at the trading deadline, but Los Angeles did not want to part ways with Talen Horton-Tucker. So, if the Lakers want to get Lowry, it would have to be in a sign-and-trade because Los Angeles does not have enough money to sign him as a free agent unless he took a lot less money. The Lakers probably do not have enough to pull off a sign and trade for Lowry. But if they somehow could pull it off, Lowry would help the Lakers big time. He would give the Lakers another ball-handler alongside LeBron James. Also, Lowry would provide shooting and defense, something the Lakers need to get back to the championship.
