NBA: Best Free Agents Still Available – CrownHoops

maximios June 10, 2023 Sport

The NBA Free Agency of 2019 has been one to remember. In the course of just a couple of days, the NBA landscape was drastically changed in the way we have not seen before. Kevin Durant joined forces with Kyrie Irving in Brooklyn, Kawhi Leonard lured Paul George to the Clippers to join him, and D’Angelo Russell was traded to the Golden State Warriors. To put this into perspective, these were just a few of the headlines. Now that the highly touted stars have been taken, it is time to take a look at the best free agents still available and where they could fit in the league.

NBA Free Agent #1: Carmelo Anthony

Carmelo Anthony is not the Melo of old. Love him or hate him, he is still on the market and there are a few teams who could take a chance on him. His style does not fit the new modern NBA, but he could be effective coming off the bench. Carmelo Anthony is a career 24 points per game scorer. He also has pulled down 6.5 rebounds per game for his career.

As a result, Anthony could be a huge boost to a second unit such as San Antonio’s, New Orleans’, or even Milwaukee’s. It still remains to be seen whether or not Melo will play another game in the league, but regardless, he is still available on the market.

NBA Free Agent #2: Kenneth Faried

Believe it or not, Faried found some success with the Houston Rockets when the Brooklyn Nets traded him this past season. The Manimal did a solid job of filling the void left by Clint Capela when he went down with an injury. Faried will add instant energy and some needed second chance opportunities to a team.

That has been his specialty throughout his NBA career as he has averaged 8 total rebounds per game for his career. An impressive average for an undersized power forward. Teams who could use his services include the Phoenix Suns, Memphis Grizzlies, and the Houston Rockets. All three of these teams finished in the bottom five of the total rebounding last season.

Free Agent #3: Kyle Korver

Korver has a case for being on any team in the league with his potent three-point shooting. For his career, he possesses a three-point shooting percentage of 42.9 percent. Granted, he is getting older, but he knows his role and will not disrupt locker room chemistry. Not to mention, he is an underrated defender as well averaging a career defensive rating of 107.

He made some key plays for the Utah Jazz last season, showing he can still play in the NBA. There are a plethora of teams who should try to sign Korver. Teams who really need his services are the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, Phoenix Suns, and the Dallas Mavericks all of whom were some of the worst three-point shooting teams in the league last year. In conclusion, do not be surprised to see these free agents signed soon as they are three of the best available left on the NBA free-agent market.
