NBA: Early Look at 2020 Free Agents – CrownHoops

maximios June 10, 2023 Sport

This summer’s NBA Free Agency has been one for the ages. We have seen moves never seen before and the whole NBA landscape changed within a week. Not to mention, the era of superteams seems to have taken a back seat to dynamic duos for the time being. With all of this in mind, it will be interesting to see how next season’s free agency shakes out for the NBA. While it is still extremely early, it does not hurt to take a look at the potential free agents in next summer’s market. Here is a quick overview of the 2020 NBA Free Agents.

An Early Look at the 2020 NBA Free Agent Market

NBA 2020 Free Agent #1- Anthony Davis

It is crazy to think that AD may be available again after the tumultuous year he had with the New Orleans Pelicans. Not to mention, he basically just forced his way to the Los Angeles Lakers. However, he does have a player option and if things don’t go as planned for the Lakers, he could decide to test the markets. If Davis does opt out of his contract, then he will definitely be the most sought after free agent on the market if he can stay healthy.

The Brow is a career 23.7 point per game scorer and also a career 10.5 rebound per game glass eater as well. On top of this, he also has a career block average of 2.4. His resume speaks volumes as well as he has made the All-Star Game six times, the All-NBA Team three times, and is also a three-time block champion as well. If Davis wants to test the markets, then he is going to have many teams vying for his services.

NBA 2020 Free Agent #2- Draymond Green

Green will be an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2020. The versatile power forward who can facilitate on both ends of the floor could make a slew of teams very happy. For example, if the Denver Nuggets lose Paul Millsap, then Green would be a great fit alongside Nikola Jokic making an intriguing low-post duo. Draymond Green had an off year this past season, but much of that was partly due to the Golden State Warriors having multiple All-Stars on the floor.

For his career, Dray is a three-time All-Star, former Defensive Player of the Year, former steal champion, and has made the All-NBA Team twice including making the All-Defensive Team five times to go along with his three championship rings. Not to mention, Green has also averaged close to a triple-double in a couple of different seasons throughout his career. He may not be a top tier star, but he can be a great complimentary star for a team who already possesses an alpha player on their squad.

Free Agent #3- DeMar DeRozan

DeRozan is one of the best offensive players in the league right now. He possesses one skill which seems to be dying out in today’s NBA. The ability to hit the mid-range jump-shot. While he may not be getting younger, he is still considered an All-Star for a reason. The San Antonio Spurs were still able to keep their postseason streak alive behind DeRozan as the main offensive force this past season and he will be heavily sought after in the summer of 2020. His offensive game alone speaks for itself.

He is a career 19.9 point per game scorer and has shot 45.1 percent from the field for his career. Not to mention, DeRozan is coming off a season where he averaged a career-high in assists per game (six). DeRozan also has an underrated NBA resume. One which will catch the eyes of many potential suitors. DeRozan is a four-time All-Star and has even made the All-NBA Team twice in his career. His resume may not be as loaded as Draymond Green’s, but he has still accomplished more than many NBA players do in 10 seasons in the league.

Free Agent #4- Gordon Hayward

Gordon Hayward will have a player option like Anthony Davis. While he may not live up to his contract, it is important to remember he suffered a gruesome injury before he even finished a game with the Boston Celtics. For all we know, the one-time All-Star will have a bounce-back year and remind everyone of how good he can be in this league. Do not forget, his last year with the Utah Jazz, Hayward was considered one of the best wing players in the entire NBA.

The particular season, Hayward averaged 21.9 points per game to go along with 5.4 rebounds per game. He also averaged a steal per game that year as well. In terms of his career averages, Hayward has put up 15.1 points per game, 4.2 rebounds per game, and a steal per game. Even if Hayward cannot return to his All-Star form, he can still be a quality role player for a team considering his career numbers are still pretty good.

Free Agent #5- Mike Conley

Conley is one of, if not, the most underrated player in the NBA. He was recently traded to the Utah Jazz, which will make them a deadly threat in the Western Conference. However, he can still test the markets in the 2020 season. Despite playing on a poor Memphis Grizzlies team last season, he still averaged 21.1 points per game while also posting 6.4 assists per game. He will form a deadly trio with Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert in Utah.

Conley formed an underrated big three for much of his time in Memphis. When Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol were there, he was often the unsung hero. Not to mention, he made the All-Defensive Team in the 2013-14 season. For his career, Conley has averaged 14.9 points per game while also dishing out 5.7 assists per game. While Conley may not be a household name, rest assured he will draw the interest of many teams in the 2020 NBA Free Agency. Then again, all five of these players are going to generate quite a bit of interest in the summer of 2020.
